1928-2014 Rev. Mell Williams, Jr. was born on September 18, 1928 to Rev. M. L. Williams, Sr. & Mrs. Modessa Levias Williams, in Deweyville, Texas. He departed this life on Sunday, September 7, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mrs. Leola (Zunt) Harris of Seattle, Washington. He was united in holy matrimony to Mrs. Willow Simon Williams in 1946. To this union, six children were born. He attended public schools in Deweyville and Hebert in Beaumont. Rev. Williams graduated from Conroe Inter-Theological Seminary. He began his ministry at age 22 and pastored Spring Hill Baptist Church in Evergreen, Texas in 1956 and St. Luke Baptist Church in San Augustine, Texas in 1961. He became pastor of New Light Missionary Baptist Church of Port Arthur, Texas in 1962. Reverend Williams is survived by his wife, Mrs. Willow Williams, six children; Mell Williams, III (Wanda), Larry Williams, Willow Bernard, Shirley Wells (Joseph), Mona Hayes (Donald) and Randy Williams (Glynis); 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. 1 Aunt, Mrs. Fannie Johnson of Lake Charles, La., 2 sisters; Mrs. Leona Williams (Clarence) of Renton, Washington, Mrs. Bessie Henderson of Pacifica, California, 2 Sisters-in-law: Mrs. Joyce Booker (Eddie), Mrs. Irma Simon, brother-in-law, Mr. Clyde Bradley and other relatives and friends. A viewing service will be held Friday, September 12, 2014 from 6 - 9 p.m. at New Light Baptist Church. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the church. Entombment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery Mausoleum, Beaumont, TX under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
