Melvin James Schroeder, Sr., 84, of Beauxart Gardens, died August 22, 2012, at his residence. Born May 2, 1928, in Thrall, Texas, he was the son of Mary Poldrack Schroeder and Arthur John Schroeder. Mr. Schroeder was a United States Navy veteran and was employed for twenty-three years with Texas Gulf Sulphur and also with Charles B. Wilson Oil. He was also a member of Port Arthur Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 797. He is survived by his son, Melvin James Schroeder, Jr., of Livingston; daughters, Brenda Johnson and her husband, Rob, of Houston; and Linda Schroeder and Judy Dooley, both of Beauxart Gardens; daughter-in-law, Becky Smith and her husband, J.D., of Vidor; grandchildren, Keely Shaw and her husband, David and Michael James Schroeder and his wife, Ashley, all of Vidor, and Daniel Joseph Dooley of Houston; great- granddaughters, Brooklyn Schroeder and Lorelai Schroeder, both of Vidor; brother, Charles Schroeder of Corpus Christi; and sister, Marjorie Ruemke of Bartlett. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Zella Schroeder. A gathering of Mr. Schroeder's family and friends will be Sunday evening, August 26, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Broussard's, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 27, 2012, at Broussard's followed by burial at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, in Nederland.
