Olidie Joseph Abshire, Jr. died May 4, 2013 after a short battle with cancer. Known to his loved ones as Mann and to his friends and co-workers as O.J, he was born on October 18, 1950 in Gueydan, La.; he grew up in Pasadena, Tex. and graduated from Sam Rayburn High School. O.J. attended Sam Houston State University where he met and married his beloved, Veda in 1972. After serving in the Air Force, O.J. and Veda settled in Beaumont, Tex. where he finished his BBA in Accounting at Lamar University before starting their family. A long-time member of the National Association of Credit Management, O.J. worked for the State Controllers' Office and Gulf Consolidated Services while in Beaumont. O.J. moved his family to Deer Park, Tex. when he joined Vallen Safety Supply; he finished his career at Hunting Energy Services. O.J. and Veda are members of Creekmont Baptist Church. A devoted family man, O.J.'s family, particularly his young grandsons, brought tremendous joy to his life. A remarkable husband and man, O.J. will be dearly missed by his family, friends and co-workers. Surviving are his wife, Veda Abshire; son, Bryan Abshire and wife, Amanda; grandsons, Blane and Cole Abshire; parents, Olidie and Margaret Abshire, Sr.; sister, Beth and husband James Branson; brother-in-law, Dr. Terry Bland; brother-in-law, James G. Hays and wife, Sherry; sister-in-law, Karen Green and husband, George; sister-in-law, Arleigh Hays; niece, Heather Scoggins and family; nephew, Joe Bland and family; nephew, Jay Branson; nephew, Michael Branson; nephew, Cris Green and family; niece, Peggy Brown and family; as well as many extended family members and dear friends. O.J. was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Ann Bland, and niece, Karyn Danise Day.
