Paul Decuir, Sr., 87, of Hamshire, passed away peacefully at his home, Monday, October 8, 2012, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 10, 1925, in Abbeville, Louisiana, to Elvina Marie Palumbo and Leonce Joseph Decuir. His family moved to Texas in 1941, and he married his wife, Mary Alice Barron on December 23, 1944, and began to raise their family in Nederland. Paul worked as an operator for Union Oil Refinery in Port Neches. After being transferred to a pump station for Union Oil, at Big Hill on Pipkin Ranch, he moved his family to Hamshire in 1968. Paul was a member and dedicated usher of St. Louis Catholic Church. He was a member of local OCAW. He enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, and trapping, and he loved to garden and enjoyed raising cattle. Paul was also an excellent carpenter and general repairer. There was nothing he could not build or repair, nor was there anything he could not grow. He loved his Cajun music and enjoyed sitting in with local bands playing his fiddle or drums. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his sons, Paul Decuir, Jr., and his wife, Mi, of Houston; Chris Decuir; Mark Decuir and his wife, Monica; and daughters, Mable Rudisill and Charlene Shorty Decuir, all of Hamshire; brother, James Allen Decuir and his wife, Monica, of Big Sandy; sister, Beatrice Waddell of Port Neches; grandchildren, Troy Ihle, Cary Decuir, Dayna Castillo, Josh Decuir, and Adam Decuir; great-grandchildren, Ciara and Emily Ihle, Breanna and Jonathon Miller, Gabby Castillo, Zach, Amy and Jacob Decuir, Hayden and Jaxon Decuir; and numerous family members and friends. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, of sixty years, Mary; grandson, Bret Decuir; son-in-law, J. W. Rudisill; brother, Walter Decuir; sisters, Aline Decuir, Eunice Miller, Verna May Folks and Florence McCauley. A gathering of Mr. Decuir's family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at Broussard's, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 11, 2012, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 315 West Buccaneer Drive, with interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
