Paul Joseph Binagia, Sr., 91, of Groves, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his family. Paul was born July 28, 1920, in Port Arthur, to the late Willie and Mary Binagia. Paul was known to many as a hardworking man, a dedicated father, and faithful husband. Paul was a sound gardener and was recognized for his gardening in the local paper. Paul enjoyed hunting and fishing and spent many years in Colorado enjoying the outdoor sports. Paul was a proud member of the Port Arthur Italian American Club and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Paul retired from Texaco in 1980, with over 30 years of service. Paul was also an independent business man, operating a local washing machine business. Paul was known to many as a person who could fix anything but a broken heart. Paul will be missed by many. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Velma Binagia; brothers, Charlie Binagia, Pete Binagia, Nick Binagia and Sam Binagia; sisters, Lena DePope, Jo Roy and Annie Romano. Paul is survived by his son, Paul Binagia, Jr. and his wife, Susie of Orange; daughter, Kathy Ponder and her husband, Harold of Beaumont; sisters, Frances Choate of Vinton, Louisiana, Mary Krebs of Groves; sister-in-law, JoAnn Tremonte of Port Arthur; grandchildren, Mary McBee, Trey Binagia, Judy Taylor, Kimberly King, Amy Lundy , Emily Petry, and Mark Ponder; grandchildren, Michael Willis and Duane Willis; fifteen great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren; and his faithful dog, Angel. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m., at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 21, 2012, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves.
