Philip Franklin DeShong, age 95 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 in Beaumont, TX. Services will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 2, 2013 at St. Stephens Episcopal Church with the Reverend Nancy DeForest officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Guild Hall. Mr. DeShong was born on December 7, 1917 in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended Good Will School in Hinckley, Maine, and graduated from Oberlin College in 1940 with a degree in English Literature. He served the United States Army Air Corps in Europe in World War II. After the War, he moved to Texas and married Laura Francis Ridley. Mr. DeShong was a CPA and founding partner of Wathen DeShong & Juncker, LLP in Beaumont. He was active in many community affairs and served as Treasurer and a member of the Vestry of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church for many years. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Laura Ridley DeShong, a son, Dr. Philip R. DeShong and his wife Kathy DeShong of Silver Spring, MD, a daughter, Dorcas Brannock of Sofia, Bulgaria; and two grandchildren, Kelly and Kathleen Brannock.
