R.A. Parker, 88, of Honey Island, died Monday, August 19, 2013, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Beaumont. He was born on June 3, 1925, in Alto, Louisiana, to Bertie Bussell Parker and Allen Parker, and was a resident of Honey Island most of his life. R.A. was a retired foreman with Kirby Lumber with forty-two years of service. Survivors include his children, Linda Ruth Shavers and Dee Dee Poland and her husband, Larry, all of Honey Island; and Bubba Parker and his wife, Kathy, of Kountze; sisters, Betty Jo Roth of Hull and Nelda Dacus of Honey Island; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. R.A. is preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Ruth Parker; sisters, Geraldine Hooks and Melba Fregia; and brothers, Elbert Parker, Albert Parker, and T.L. Parker. A gathering of Mr. Parker's family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 22, 2013, at Broussard's, 530 West Monroe, Kountze. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 23, 2013, at Broussard's, with interment to follow at Jordan Cemetery, Honey Island.
