Reuben A. Isern, M.D., of Winnie, passed away at the age of 60, Friday, August 31, 2012. A native of Havana, Cuba, he lived in the Beaumont area since 1969 where he practiced medicine. Reuben left Cuba at the age of 14, and graduated from French High School in Beaumont. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Zaragoza in Spain and returned to the United States where he trained in Internal Medicine. Upon completion, he joined his father in his medical practice in Beaumont. Dr. Isern subsequently returned to The University of Texas Medical School in Houston to pursue additional training in the field of Rheumatology and Autoimmune Diseases. He is survived by his daughter, Diorella McGuire and her husband, Joe; two grandchildren; parents, Dr. and Mrs. Raul Isern; sisters, Yvette Estrada and her husband, Dr. Rolando Estrada; and Isel Caballero and her husband, Eduardo Caballero; and brother, Dr. Raul Isern, Jr. and his wife, Mary; niece, Gabriella Caballero; and nephews, Mario Juan, Raul Isern III, and Eduardo Caballero. Reuben was a free spirit and an optimist always focusing on the positive. He was an exceptional father, and grandfather. Reuben was dedicated to his family, making the best of every minute he had with his elderly parents. To his siblings he was an older brother to look up to as well as the little brother to guide. In addition to the love that he had for his family, he was passionate about medicine and the well being of his patients; always going above and beyond. He was a friend to all and helped everyone who crossed his path. His love for animals was evidenced by the menagerie in is home; every creature was his friend. Reuben made a difference every place that he went, and we all loved him for it. All who knew Reuben were captivated by his charm. Everyone who met him was impacted by his presence and he immediately became a friend for life. His mind and his body were sound and his spirit was never broken.
