Rick died on March 3, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. Rick was born on February 15, 1941 in Nacogdoches, Texas, to Ralph and Ouida Murff. In the late 1940's, they moved to Carthage, Texas. Rick graduated from Carthage High School in 1959, where he excelled in football and academics. After graduating from high school, Rick attended the University of Texas on a football scholarship. After two years at Texas, he transferred to Stephen F. Austin, where he continued to play football. He graduated from SFA with a BS in Biology. Rick met and married Sue Ann Tucker while they were seniors at SFA. Upon graduating from SFA, Rick continued his education at Hermann School of Physical Therapy, Houston, Texas. Shortly after graduating from Physical Therapy School, he became Director of Physical Therapy at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas, where he remained for 10 years before becoming Director of Physical Therapy at Beaumont Bone and Joint for 19 years. After a few years in private practice, he became Director of Physical Therapy at Hermann Memorial Baptist Hospital in Beaumont. In 2004, Rick and Sue Ann relocated to the Tyler area where he continued Physical Therapy in Continue Care Hospital. Rick loved to participate in many different sports throughout his life, but his true passion was golf. He and Sue Ann moved to a golf community near Tyler, where they both enjoyed playing for many years. Rick's life centered around God, his family, friends and his patients. He was preceded in death by his father Ralph H. Murff, his mother Ouida Browning Murff and his brother Lewis Robert Murff. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sue Ann Tucker Murff; two sons, Randy and his wife Kelly of Tyler and James and his wife Julie of McKinney. Rick was also known as D'dad to four wonderful grandchildren: Will, Katherine, Jamie and Jenna Murff. In addition to many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews, he is also survived by two dogs, Lady and Andy, who gave him so much love and attention. Many thanks to Texas Oncology, Dr. Frank Ward and his staff, as well as The Hospice of East Texas and their caring staff. A special thank you to Joyce and Deborah from The Hospice of East Texas, who showed Rick such enormous compassion in his last weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts to
