Ruby Shirutis Williamson, 92, of Beaumont, died Thursday, September 20, 2012, at Calder Woods, Beaumont. She was born in 1920, the fifth child, to Maud and J.V. Nelson, in Southwest Louisiana. Her early education was in the DeQuincy, Louisiana school system. She enjoyed singing in church choirs, and as a high school student, she was the member of a musical group that won first prize in high school state competition. She was cherished for her hearty laughter, beautiful smile, and delightful wit. At the end of World War II, Ruby, a newlywed, and her husband moved to Beaumont, Texas where they became active in community social and civic organizations. Ruby was a longtime employee for the Federal Courts in Beaumont. She was also a longtime member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Beaumont. Known to her nieces and nephews as a fun and elegant aunt, Ruby enjoyed music, dancing, and playing bridge with friends. It was her pleasure to introduce her siblings' children to weekends at Crystal Beach, take them shopping, prepare bridesmaids and wedding gowns. As a global traveler, she reveled in reminiscing with them as they, too, explored distant shores. She was a trusted confidant. As part of a large and growing family, she played a pivotal role in family communications. Her home was always open for family. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Lee Quessenberry, William J. Shirutis, and Bert Williamson; and siblings, Max Nelson, Eunice Hoover, Earl Nelson, Vannie Belle Murphy, and Dr. Madison Nelson. Survivors include her sister, Willa Nelson Ross of Beaumont; numerous nieces and nephews; and step-children. Ruby's family is appreciative of the thoughtfulness of the Calder Woods staff during her eleven years' residence. They are especially grateful for the loving care and cheer showered upon her in the last few months. A family committal for Mrs. Williamson will be held at a later date. Her cremation arrangements were under the direction of Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to , P.O. Box 841125, Dallas, Texas 75284; Buckner's Calder Woods Retirement Community, 7080 Calder Avenue, Beaumont, Texas 77706; or , 755 South 11th Street, Suite 212, Beaumont, Texas 77701.
