As a corporate lawyer, she was employed both by Standard Oil of California and the E.I Dupont de Nemours corporation. She met her husband John, a fellow employee of Dupont, in Memphis, Tennessee. The couple married in 1953 and had two children: son Jeremy in 1955 and daughter Adrienne in 1959. John, a chemical engineer, was integral in project-based startups at numerous Dupont installations. This brought the new family first to Louisville, Kentucky; then to Montague, Michigan; Newark, Delaware; and finally (in 1964) to Beaumont, Texas . The retired couple remained in Beaumont, Texas through December, 2006, when they relocated to Santa Maria, California. Ruth, surviving John, moved to Atterdag Village, Solvang in her last years. Ruth, a voracious reader her entire life, also kept to a close and vital interest in the arts. Ruth herself sang for years in her Lutheran church choir. Additionally she supported both her son, a musician and daughter, an artist, in their collegiate work. She also taught in the Beaumont, Texas high schools for a time after work in secondary education done at Lamar University, Beaumont. She maintained membership in P.E.O, a women's philanthropic and educational organization, for decades in different states. Ruth is survived by her two children: Jeremy, senior faculty at UC Santa Barbara in Music, and Adrienne, a utilization manager for Austin/Travis County Integral Care. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents: John Edward Heino and Lina Ylajoki, as well as by her husband John. A memorial celebration of Ruth's life will be held Monday, September 19th at 3:30pm in the central living room of Atterdag Village of Solvang, which adjoins the office. The preceding hour will be a time for coffee, visitation and remembrance. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Ruth's favorite charities: P.E.O.
