His granddaughters, Courtney Elizabeth Snowden, Carley Snowden Holmes and husband Jimmy Holmes and their three children, Katherine Holmes, Carolyn Grace Holmes, and Clayton Holmes were a special gift for Sam. He was born in 1923 in Danville, Virginia, where he grew up and married his high school sweetheart, Becky. He joined the U S Air Force and proudly served as a pilot, flying B-24's in WWII. He attended Virginia Institute of Polytechnics after the war and used his engineering degree to pursue his career in Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. He retired after 30 years and returned to Beaumont. He and Becky then enjoyed many years traveling the world and creating memories and meeting lifelong friends. Sam was an avid sportsman, golfing, fishing and hunting were his favorites. Those who had the pleasure of meeting Sam will warmly remember his charming personality, his colorful stories and steadfast loyalty and devotion to his family and friends. Sam will be honored at a private family service with special veteran honors. The family wishes to extend gratitude to his special caregivers, Marilyn, Fanetta, Doddy, Quinn, Joyce and Judy for the comfort and care they gave to Sam in his last days.
