Sarah Anne Strawther, 92, of Trout Creek passed away Friday, April 18, 2014, at Village Creek Rehab and Nursing Center in Lumberton. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 21, at Trout Creek Baptist Church with burial at Trout Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday at the church. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. A long time resident of the Trout Creek community, she was born June 16, 1921 in Fort Worth, TX to Oliver Bunyan and Addie Sue Elliott. Graduating form Fort Worth Polytechnic High School in 1939. She later married James O. Strawther, a U.S. Navy veteran, in a household ceremony held in Fort Worth on May 12, 1945. Sarah Anne and James moved to Newton County in 1946, where they lived, worked and raised a family, attaining 64 years of marriage. She worked and retired from the Jasper-Newton Electric Co-op in Kirbyville, TX. During the next few years she spent many days doing volunteer work at the MHMR Resale Store in Kirbyville. She took great joy being involved in the worship, work, fellowship and charitable activities of her church family at the Trout Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include sons, Jim & Barbara Strawther of Lumberton, Jack Strawther of Bedford, and Tom & Patti Strawther of Houston; a sister, Margaret Beers of Arlington; 7 grandchildren, Jamie & Lara Strawther, Frank & Kirsten Strawther, Will & Carolyn Strawther, Jacky Lee & Alice Strawther, Lauren Anne Strawther, Charles H. & Melissa French, and Paul & Holly Strawther; and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James O. Strawther; her parents, Oliver Bunyan & Addie Sue Elliott; brothers, Jack, John, and Bill Elliott; and a sister, Mary Edmondson. Special thanks are extended to the caring staff of both the Village Creek Rehab & Nursing Center in Lumberton and the Altus Hospice staff in Beaumont.
