Shirley Taylor O'Brien 1935-2015 Shirley Taylor O'Brien, of Ponder, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015 in Denton, TX. Ms. O'Brien was born on March 15, 1935 in Lufkin, TX to Lee and Alma (Barton) Taylor. She grew up in Colmesneil, TX where she first started singing in church at an early age. She graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Music Education. Shirley lived most of her adult life in Beaumont, TX where she sang in the Adult Choir of First Baptist Church.She was an elementary school music teacher for over 25 years at the Port Neches-Groves ISD, and worked with many children to instill the joy of music into their lives. When she moved to Ponder, she became a member of First Baptist Church in Denton, where she enjoyed singing in the Worship Choir and meeting weekly with the EncouragersSundayschool class. Shirley also loved gardening and participated in the Twilight Garden Club. She had an encouraging spirit, a tender heart for animals, and a love of singing praises to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 104:33. She is survived by her daughter, Kim McGee and her husband, Keith, of Denton TX; sons, Taylor O'Brien of Austin, TX, David O'Brien of Franklin, TN; grandchildren, Michael McGee and his wife, Mallory, of Clinton, MS and Katie McGee of Denton, TX.She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Alma Taylor, as well as her brother, Roy Taylor and hiswife, Edith. The funeral service will be held at11:00 am,Saturday, Dec. 5, at First Baptist Church, 1100 Malone St., Denton, with visitation to follow. Interment will be at the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, Lufkin, TX onMonday, Dec. 7 at3.00 pm. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Denton, Music Ministry, or First Baptist Church, Denton, Building Generations Fund. On-line condolences may be made
