W. K. Milner, Jr. passed away on May 12, 2012, in Kingwood, Texas. Born in Port Arthur, Texas, on January 5, 1923, to W. Kimmie Milner, Sr. and wife, Etta Mae McNeill, he lived most of his early life in Kirbyville, Texas, where he graduated in 1941. He received a diploma in business from Port Arthur College, and worked at Gulf Oil before volunteering for the U.S. Navy during World War II in 1942. He served aboard the Battleship USS Pennsylvania and the hospital ship USS Bountiful in the Pacific. After World War II ended, he enrolled at the University of Texas, Austin, and received his B.A. degree in Music Education in 1950. In 1950, he moved to Houston and was employed by the Southern Pacific Railroad. In 1952, he worked for Mobil Oil in Caracas, Venezuela, for three years, then Southern Pacific RR and later Port Terminal RR, where he became Treasurer. After his retirement, he traveled extensively. He was preceded in death by his parents; a younger brother, H. Paul Milner; and younger sister, Ginger Milner Horner. He is survived by two sisters, Louise Milner Mullin, Beaumont, Margie Milner Boyd, Georgetown, TX; three nephews, Mike L. Mullin, Canton, TX, Patrick B. Mullin, Kingwood, TX, and David J. Boyd, Georgetown, TX; three nieces, Janis Boyd Hudson, Georgetown, TX, Paula Kay Milner Lattimore, and Sharon Milner Honza, both of Nederland; and several great nephews and nieces. Graveside services will be at Kirbyville Cemetery, at 11:00 a.m., on May 18, 2012, under the direction of Adams E.E. Stringer Funeral Home.
