Wayne Griffith, 87, of Nederland, died Sunday, September 16, 2012. He was born on August 1, 1925, in Jayess, Mississippi, to Nannie Smith Griffith and Willard Griffith, Sr., and had been a resident of the area for fifty years. Wayne was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in World War II. He was an engineer with Texaco Marine Department and retired after forty years of employment. Wayne was a longtime member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, traveling, and spending time with family. Wayne will be remembered as a man of few words and could fix anything. He is survived by his wife of twelve years, Betty Griffith of Nederland; sons, Gary Griffith and his wife, Linda, of Monticello, Mississippi; and Phillip Griffith and his wife, Pam, of Orange; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Lavon Griffith of Elberta, Alabama and Kenneth Griffith of Sontag, Mississippi; and sister, Louise Callender of Kenner, Louisiana. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Johnnie Griffith; two sisters; and five brothers. A gathering of Mr. Griffith's family and friends was held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at Broussard's, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at Broussards, with interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
