Versie Mae Corkran Lanier, 86, of Nederland, died Monday, February 10, 2014. She was born October 26, 1927, to Jerusha Cottongim and Burl Corkran in Kinder, Louisiana, and had been a resident of the Mid-County area since 1947. Versie worked for many years as a telephone operator with Southwestern Bell, before her retirement. She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Johnson and her husband, Keith, of Nederland; grandchildren, Brandon Johnson and his wife, Rachel of Nederland, Aaron Johnson and his wife, Rachel, of Fort Belvoir, Virginia and Dylan Johnson of Nederland; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Bourque, Aaron Bourque, Ava Johnson, Kaydence Johnson, Jaxon Johnson and Laurel Johnson; and brother, Cliff Corkran and his wife, Pat, of Nederland. Versie is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon Lanier; and nine siblings. A gathering of Mrs. Lanier's family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with her funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, February 13, 2014, at Broussard's, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.
