Benjamin Randolph Ben Smith, 37, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014. He was born in Lubbock to Corliss Cobb Smith and Randolph Alan Smith. Ben was a member of Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Oklahoma, obtained his PhD at Indiana University, and was an instructor at Lamar University. Survivors include his father, Randy Smith and his wife, Ruth, of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; grandparents, Ruth and Bill Cobb of Henderson and Anna and Hugh Smith of Silsbee; brother, Tyler Smith of Houston; aunts and uncles, Vicky and Stan; Donna and Rick; and Beth and Lucia; cousins, Michele, Ryan, Rhiannon, and Caitlin; former spouse, Susan Kline Chang; and his dog, Mika. He was preceded in death by his mother. A memorial service for Ben will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Broussard's, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.
