Walter Sonny Minnard, 92, of Beaumont passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Douglas Memorial C.M.E. Church with burial at Live Oak Cemetery. A viewing will held from 9-11:00 a.m. at the church on Saturday. Walter Sonny was born April 30, 1920 in Ridge, Louisiana to Varist Minnard, sr. and Francis Buchanan Minnard. Walter was a 64 year resident of Beaumont and a WWII Veteran of the U. S. Army and retired from Hollywood Crawford Door Sales as a Carpenter. Walter also was a Deacon at Douglas Memorial Methodist Church where he faithfully served until his illness. Surviving relatives include his lovely devoted wife of 65 years, Thelma Minnard of Beaumont; children, Edward Minnard (Sharel), Rose Marie Pete (Derrick), Bennette Minnard (Vernell), Geraldine Smith (Boyd), Lillian Brown (Greg), Calvin Minnard (Stephanie), Susan Minnard Clophus (Patrick) and Gregory Minnard (Patti); (16) grandchildren; (19) great grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Leaks of Houston, Texas, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
