Massie Marie Easley, 83, passed away October 6, 2012 in Columbia, Md. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., will conduct an Omega Omega Service at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 3920 West Cardinal Drive Beaumont, Texas. Visitation will follow at 10:00 a.m. with a celebration of her life and memory at 11:00 a.m. Marie was born on April 11, 1929, in Kenedy, Texas, to Elijah Lewis, Sr., and Callie Carter. Marie is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Elijah Lewis, Jr., and Morris Lavern Lewis. Before moving to Maryland in 2005, Marie was a resident of Beaumont for more than 40 years where she served the community and Beaumont Independent School District for over 37 years. She was very involved in numerous professional and civic organizations and was a devoted member of the Jefferson County Democratic Party, where she received several accolades from the late Governor Ann Richards for her work with the party. Marie was a positive role model, advocate, and mentor to many. She was full of laughter, never losing her sense of humor, and embraced love while equally giving it to others. Even as her health failed, she never forgot how to speak a word of thanks and I love you. She leaves to cherish her memory, son, Ronald Griffin (Los Angeles, CA); daughter, Beneé Easley (Columbia, MD); granddaughter, Nikia Hopkins (Beaumont, TX); great-granddaughter, Treajure Minnard (Beaumont, TX), and a host of relatives, extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her memory to the at Final arrangements made by Going Home Cremation Services, 519 Mabe Drive, Woodbine, MD 21797.
