Roger Sherrill Meek, 80, of Beaumont, passed away on December 27, 2012, while vacationing in Winter Park, Colorado. He was born on March 1, 1932, in Anderson County, Tennessee, to Nadine and Thomas Meek. Born into a family with humble beginnings, Roger became a hard worker and took on many responsibilities. He became a newspaper carrier for the Knoxville News Sentinel at the age of 12, and delivered the newspapers on foot, working his way through high school and graduating from the University of Tennessee in 1954. He worked in New York City for Ernst and Young for a year before deciding to join the United States Navy. He received his wings of gold, and accumulated over 4000 hours as a jet pilot and retired with twenty years of service in 1975. Moving his family to Beaumont in August 1975, he began his second career as a certified public accountant with Lawrence, Blackburn, Meek, Maxey, LLP. Roger's clients and staff have been his love and family for thirty-seven years. He has served in various positions in the Beaumont Chapter of CPA's, Kiwanis, and was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church since 1975. The love of his life was his family; he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. A gathering of Mr. Meek's family and friends will be from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at Broussard's, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 777 North 4th Street, Beaumont. Military honors will be held at Houston National Cemetery, 1410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston.
