Lloyd E. Briggs Sr., 77 of Beaumont, passed away Wednesday morning on April 24, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. A lifelong resident of Beaumont, he was a retired temp boilermaker at Jefferson Chemical/ Texaco Chemical in Port Neches. He also worked at Knightons Funeral Home for many years & became one of the first EMTs in the State of Texas. Lloyd Briggs was a member of the Skyhawk Parachute team as well as an avid hunting & fishing sportsman. He was a 1958 Texas Bull Riding Champion & participated in the Nascar Driving School in Fort Worth, Texas. He joined the Civic Rights Movement in the 60s with a sit-in at Sommers Drug Store in the Stadium Shopping Center. Lloyd loved to travel & had visited England, South Wales, Mexico, & Canada plus all 50 of the United States. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert & Eola Huntsbury Briggs, brother Herbert Briggs, Jr., sisters, Maudrie Briggs, Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Mouton, Estella Petetan, & Mildred Benard. Lloyd is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mabel Guillory Briggs; sons Lloyd Briggs, Jr., of Pearland, TX, James (Vanessa) Briggs, daughter, Cheryl Watts both of Beaumont; brother Odis (Clara) Briggs of Port Arthur; sisters, Gladys Gamblin, Virgie Landry, Katherine Briggs, all of Beaumont; 9 grandchildren, & 14 Great Grandchildren. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013 at St. John Baptist Church, 855 Sherman St., Beaumont, TX. There will be a gathering of family & friends at the funeral home on Friday, April 26, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Viewing on Saturday, April 27, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park under the professional care and direction of Comeaux Community Funeral Chapel. @
