BEAVERCREEK — Shirley Helke, age 81 of Lebanon, OH, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016. She was a resident at the Otterbein Home for several years. Born in Dayton, she lived in Beavercreek for many years. She was a former longtime member of Aley United Methodist Church and Christ United Methodist Church in Kettering and was a clinical nursing instructor at St. Elizabeth Nursing School. A Registered Nurse, graduate of University of Dayton and Wilbur Wright High School, Dayton. Shirley was an avid writer of short stories, and volunteered many years writing and performing puppet shows for Vacation Bible School at Aley Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard, in October of 2015. She is survived by her sons Edward (Denise) Helke of Frederick, CO and Roger Helke of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren Jennica and Andrea; great-grandchildren Aiden, Kaia, Ava and Kastor; dear friends Michelle Cantrell and many of the staff at the Otterbein Home whom she was close to and that cared for her. Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday, May 28, 2016 at the Tobias Funeral Home Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd with Pastor Dennis Jones officiating. Interment Aley Cemetery, Beavercreek, Ohio. Family will receive friends from 10-11 AM Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Otterbein Home Benevolent Fund.
