Emma T. Overstreet

Emma Elizabeth Thaxton Overstreet, of Moneta, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013 at Bedford County Nursing Home. She was born in Bedford County, a daughter of the late David Leslie Thaxton and Ann Nance Thaxton. Emma was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church. She was baptized into the Baptist faith on her 12th birthday. For many years, she taught Sunday school at Flint Hill Baptist Church and was affiliated with BYPU, GA’s, and RA’s. In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Eugene Overstreet; four sisters, Ruby Sophie Thaxton, Mary Lena Thaxton, Irma Lee Thaxton, and Janie V. Thaxton; and four brothers, John Will Thaxton, Carl Hammett Thaxton, Robert Garland Thaxton, and David Guy Thaxton. She is survived by two nephews, David Guy Thaxton, Jr. of Richmond and Donald L. Thaxton of Vinton; one niece, Mildred T. Muse of Kernersville, NC; three great nephews, Davey Thaxton, Darren Thaxton, and Elliott Thaxton; and two great nieces, Kara Thaxton and Taylor Thaxton. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 187, Bedford, VA 24523. A celebration of Emma’s life was conducted at 12 PM, Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013 at Grace Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Greg Rogers officiating. Burial followed in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton.
