George Anderson Nuckols, 88, of Moneta, died March 21, 2014. He was born March 24, 1925, in Chatham, a son of the late Joe Nuckols and Nora Nuckols Kidd. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his step father A.B. â€œBarneyâ€ Kidd, and two sisters, Janice Lee Sadlier, and Elizabeth Carter. George is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 48 years, Lavon Sexton Nuckols, two daughters Lisa Smith and husband Joe of Goode, Karen Terryand husband Steve of Roanoke, and two sons Michael Todd and wife Kyla of Bedford, Ira Dean Wallace of Moneta; very special granddaughters, Katlynn Nuckols, Megan and Madison Nuckols, and great granddaughter Casey Ostrander, two sisters, Mattie Kidd of Moneta; Virginia Duncan and husband Quince of Vinton and his closet companion of 19 years his little dog â€œPeanutâ€. George was a World War II Army
veteran stationed at Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea, and Luzon. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars
, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Service Star, and numerous other medals. George worked for fifteen years at Rubatex and fifteen years for the City of Bedford from which he retired. From childhood he had a passion for farming and continued to do so after his retirement along with his wife, children, and his neighbor, Joe Rowell. A special thank you to the R.A. Nester family for allowing his passion of farming to continue. The family would like to thank the Lynchburg Hospice for their loving and compassionate care. A private memorial service will be held for the immediate family and the family requests that no flowers be sent.
