Ellen Ann Hylton, 72, of Roanoke, passed away at home on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016. Ellen was the technical services librarian for the Roanoke County Publiclibrary when she retired in 2004. She was also the head librarian at the Vinton branch library at the time of the roof collapse in 1983. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Madison College and her MSLS degree from Atlanta University. She loved her family and friends, books, cats, ballet, theatre, and needle point. She was preceded in death by her mother: Thelma Trail Hylton and her father: Frederick R. Hylton. She is survived by two sisters: Donna H. Walker, of Bedford and Dianne Hylton of New York; two nephews, Rick Walker of Roanoke and Jason A. Walker of Madison Heights and two grandnephews, Liam Walker and Matthew Walker of Madison Heights. Family and friends were received from 11 a.m. until noon Saturday at Tharp Funeral Home. A graveside service was held at Greenwood Cemetery at noon conducted by the Rev. Dr. David L. Henderson.
