Anita “Nita” Atkinson Creasy, 87, of Bedford, died Friday, June 14, 2013, at her home with her loving family at her side. She was born Aug. 10, 1925, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Thomas Burrell Atkinson and Eula Gibbs Atkinson. Anita was a member of Bedford Christian Church. She enjoyed needlework, puzzles, ceramics, gardening, the outdoors, reading her Bible as well as fiction novels and spending time with her family. She was especially fond of her farm and the Peaks of Otter Mountains. Anita was a June, 1942, graduate of Bedford High School and worked at the Hampton Looms Mill for several years following graduation until she started raising her family. She was a devoted wife and homemaker. In addition to her parents, Anita was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Harry Woodrow Creasy; a sister, Anna Poindexter; a brother, Thomas Atkinson; and a daughter-in-law, Delores Martin Creasy. She is survived by a daughter, Shelia Nunweiler and husband, Jim, of Williamsburg; three sons, Richard “Dickie” Creasy and wife, Patsy, Larry Creasy and wife, Lois Ann, and Mark Creasy, all of Bedford; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Juanita McClure, of Bedford. Nita also had a host of extended family members that she leaves behind. A celebration of Anita’s life was conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 17, 2013, in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford, with the Rev. Larry Ross and Rev. Charles Moore officiating. Interment followed in Virginia Memorial Park.
