Annie May Hanel, 98, of Forest, died Monday, April 15, 2013 at her residence. She was born in Forest on April 4, 1915 a daughter of the late Murray Chambliss May and Rosa Payne May. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Frederick Hanel; a daughter, Rosa Ann Hanel Bowyer and grandson, Christopher Bowyer. She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star Liberty Chapter #109 for over 65 years. She is survived by her children, Carleen Hanel Bowyer and her husband, James R. Bowyer, Sr.; Frederick Murry Hanel and wife, Geraldine; a son-in-law, Bernard Martin Bowyer; ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and twelve great-great grandchildren. The family extends a special thanks to her caregivers and Centra Hospice. Memorials may be made to Centra Hospice, 2097 Langhorne Rd. Lynchburg, VA 24501. A funeral service was held 11 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2013 at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel, 1235 Walnut Street with Rev. Bill Burley and Rev. Kevin Hanel officiating.
