Carlton Lee Farmer, 70, of Huddleston, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012 in Altavista. He was the husband of Patricia Austin Farmer for thirty-nine years. He was born Feb. 7, 1942 in Campbell County, a son of the late James A. Farmer and Elsie Mason Farmer. He was a retired employee of Ross Laboratories, a huge Elvis Presley fan, an avid cat lover, and loved reading mystery novels. Carlton served in the U. S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He is survived by a half sister, Dorothy Beville of Altavista; and feline friend, Butterball. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Raleigh and James; two sisters, Ruth and Phyllis; and two half sisters, Mary and Florence. A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 22, 2012 at Finch & Finch Chapel, Altavista by the Rev. Tim Lane. Military honors by Virginia National Guard Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Altavista EMS, P.O. Box 85, Altavista, VA 24517 or Staunton River Memorial Library, 500 Washington St., Altavista, VA 24517.
