The Rev. Dennis Witt Nichols (59), Rector of the Episcopal Church of Holy Comforter, Gadsden, AL, died suddenly on Monday, Nov. 24, 2014. Memorial services were held on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014 at Church of Holy Comforter at 10 a.m. with Bishops Sloan and Marray officiating, with a second service and burial on Dec. 13, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Paulâ€™s Lynchburg. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; daughters, Ande Nichols, Gadsden, AL, Ashley (Troy) Harris, Clarksboro, NJ; mother, Betty Hawkins, Bedford; siblings, David Nichols, Cathy Minor, Dorothy Strain; a niece and nephews; and extended family in VA, NC, and TN. Father Dennis was ordained to the priesthood in 1992. He previously served at St. Peterâ€™s Clarksboro, NJ and St. John-in-the-Wilderness, Gibbsboro, NJ. A graduate of Shenandoah College and Conservatory of Music and The General Theological Seminary, he was an accomplished organist, had taught school and loved music. He had served as chaplain to the South Jersey American Guild of Organists and as dean of the Woodbury Convocation. He was a member of the Oxford Round Table of Oxford, England and studied abroad extensively. He had a gift for humor, foreign languages, and theological dialogue. Dennis was the quintessential Southern gentleman, loved his â€œlittle old ladiesâ€ and doted on his â€œNichols girls.â€ A man of God, he will be deeply missed, but joins the Church Triumphant.
