Edith Markham Mitchell, 81, of Big Island died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013. She was born in Bedford County on July 5, 1932 a daughter of the late James Leonard Markham and Ola Wilson Markham.Â In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James Cary Mitchell, a son, Kevin Andrew Mitchell, two brothers, Frank Markham and Lewis Markham. She was member of Hunting Creek Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, James Mitchell; two grandsons, Jimmy and Justin Mitchell; four great-grandchildren, Hunter Mitchell, Emily Mitchell, Logan Mitchell, Andrew Mitchell; brother, Ernest (Blue) Markham and wife, Emma Jean; sisters, Marie Hughes; Barbara Campbell and husband, Brent; Delores (Punkin) Wilson and husband, Riley; sister-in-law, Bessie Markham; many special nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Big Island Emergency Crew. A funeral service was held 11 a.m. Monday, September 2, 2013 at Hunting Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Carey C. Snellings.Â Burial will followed in Hunting Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. A reception for family and friends was held in the church fellowship hall following the burial.
