Fred Myers, 86, of Pennington Gap, passed away at home on Dec. 2, 2013 following a brief illness. Fred served in the United States Navy during WWII and was stationed in the Phillipines. He retired as a long time employee with Bell Atlantic. He enjoyed fine wood working, gardening, hunting and fishing. He was gifted with the ability to play guitar, piano and mandolin by ear. His hands could create amazing things. He modeled class and integrity for his family and his friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Kathleen Myers and his first wife who was the mother of his children, Anne Noell Myers. Also, two sons-in-law Ridgley Collins and Terry Bailey. He is survived by his wife Frances and three children; Daughters, Rita Collins Kamper and husband Ken of Knoxville, TN, Cathy Bailey of Dryden, and son Bill Myers and wife Sherry of Dryden. Step-sons; Michael Fletcher and wife Dee of Knoxville, TN, Bill Fletcher and wife Barbara of Beckley, West VA. He is survived by 5 grandchildren and 1 step-grandchild; Anthony Bailey and wife Sierra, Justin Bailey and wife Suzanne, Jonathan Bailey, David Myers, Brandi Myers Smith and husband Brad and Stephanie Fletcher. He was proud of his 9 great grandchildren; Hunter, Kate, Tyson, Owen, Bella, Jack, Alex, Avery and Nora, and was eagerly awaiting the birth of the 10th in February. Family will receive friends from 5 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, December 4 in the First United Methodist Church in Pennington Gap. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013 at 7 p.m. in the Church Sanctuary with Rev. Roger Mathess officiating. Interment was held on Friday, Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. in the Montvale Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Montvale. The United Methodist Men served as Honorary pallbearers at the church.
