George Edward Hoff, 77, of Thaxton, VA, passed away on Feb. 20, 2015, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born May 29, 1937 in Bethesda, MD and was a son of the late Peggy Payne. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Margarette Frazier Hoff; stepsons, Lewis Hodges, Jr. of Waldorf, MD, Calvin Lawhorn, of Bedford, and Thomas Lawhorn of Elkton; stepdaughters, Cindy DeHart and Carolyn Nunn, of Bedford, VA; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Hoff was a United States Marine Corps Veteran and served during the Korean War. He resided in Maryland for many years and was employed with Buffalo Concrete and relocated to Bedford County where he retired and returned to work with Chandler Concrete after a total of 47 years as a driver and concrete mixer. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, Loyal Order of the Moose #1897 in Bedford, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #4344 in Moneta, and the American Legion Post #196 in Suitland, MD. His favorite pastimes were following the Washington Redskins, Joe Gibbs NASCAR racing, playing horseshoes, shooting pool and his garden. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015 at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton. Following the visitation, Pastor Carter Dean will conduct the funeral service at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, 115 Nicholson Road, Elkton, VA 22827. Interment will be in the Elk Run Cemetery.
