H. Davis (Dave) Ballard, age 82, of Bedford died Saturday, March 30, 2013 in the VA Medical Center in Salem. Born in Bedford on Aug. 16, 1930 to the late H. Suter and Ethel D. Ballard. Dave retired with the U.S. Air Force. In 1973, he and his wife, Meg moved to Bedford where Dave became employed by the City of Bedford in the Engineering Department, where he retired from nearly 20 years later. Dave was a tireless volunteer and supporter of the National D-Day Memorial and served on the board of the Avenel Foundation since its inception. In addition to his wife, Meg; Dave is survived by two sisters: Mae B. Kmeco, Arlington and Nancy B. Walsh, Alexandria. Also, a special cousin, Sarah B. Jenkins, Windsor and his extended family and friends in England. A Celebration of Daveâ€™s life will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Historic Avenel.
