Harry â€œRichardâ€ McKinney, 75, of Bedford, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013. Born June 14, 1937, he was a son of the late Harry Bernell McKinney and Gladys Veron Phillips McKinney. Richard was a member of Suck Spring Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard and a retired tanker driver â€œSly Fox.â€ He enjoyed race car driving, gardening, auto mechanics and especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Bobbitt; a brother, Clarence McKinney; and a son, Randy McKinney. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Marva Bryant; a daughter, Lisa and John Hicks; four sons, Ken and Dana McKinney, Jeff McKinney, Steve and Brandi McKinney, Phillip McKinney and fiancÃ©, Becky; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild and sisters, Lois Williamson and Evelyn Huffman and husband, Tom. A celebration of life service was held on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Tharp Funeral Home.
