Ira Wiley Smith, 71, of Bedford, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013. He was born in Vinton, on April 7, 1942 a son of the late Parker Smith and Nora Sloan Dudley Smith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Smith; his son, Greg Smith; sister, Helen Smith; half sisters, Beulah Cox and Eunice Bishop; half brother, Ernest Smith. Ira was a heavy equipment operator for Bedford Movers. He is survived by his daughter, Dawn Smith; his granddaughter, Amber Smith; his brother, Carl Smith; a sister, Patsy Arrington; half brothers, Harrison Dudley and Hubert Smith. A funeral service was held 2 pm Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel, 1235 Walnut Street, with Rev. Esther Blankenship officiating. Burial followed in the Greenwood Cemetery.
