Jerry Wayne Claytor, 59, of Bedford died Wednesday, March 26, 2014. He was the loving husband of Vera Williams Claytor. Jerry was born Aug. 14, 1954 in Lexington, a son of the late Theodore R. Claytor and Kyle Wines Claytor. A graduate of Natural Bridge High School, he continued his education in college and various flight schools becoming a Commercial Instrument Multi Engine rated pilot. In addition, he was a licensed carpenter and master woodworker. Jerry was a dedicated employee of Blossman Propane Gas & Appliance Co. since September 2005. He attended Randolph Memorial Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Curtis Claytor. He is survived by his wife, Vera; step-daughter, Jeanette McConville Sheets and husband, Jason, of Germany; step-son, Lewis McConville and one step-grandchild of Forest; sisters Helen Cash, Virginia Wells, Sandra Emore and husband Johnny, all of Glasgow; Eleanor Snider and husband, Jimmy, of Waynesboro; brothers Dennis Claytor and wife, Ann, of Titusville, FL; Eddie Claytor and wife, Georgette, of Glasgow; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Claytor, of Buena Vista; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2014 at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg. Interment followed in Virginia Memorial Park.
