John Woodrow Phillips, 69, of Bedford, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012. He was born in Thaxton on Jan. 24, 1943 a son of the late John Davis Phillips and Mary Dooley Phillips. He was retired from Rubatex Corp. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Carter Phillips, brother, Richard and Arthur Phillips. He is survived by a daughter, Laura Sines (Mike); two sons, Timothy Phillips (Lisa) and their child, Amanda; Tony Phillips; Sister, Janie Blankenship; Step-daughter, Crystal Caldwell and friend, Preston Walker; and grandchildren, Colby, Dennis Caldwell, Jr.; Christian and Mary Walker; Step-Son, Robby Miller and grandchildren, Matthew, Mark and Adam Miller; 5 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces nephews and cousins including, special niece Cheryl Stanley. John loved fishing and hunting. A memorial service was held 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012 at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel, 1235 Walnut Street, Bedford, 540-586-7360.
