On Wednesday, July 23, 2014, the Lord whispered for his child to come home, and Juanita Burford left this world to join her mother, father and her beloved husband of 37 years, T. A. Burford. She was born on May 12, 1913, in Roanoke, to Ellis David Lovern and Nellie Sweeney Lovern. She was a charter member of Crystal Spring Baptist Church, formerly South Roanoke Baptist Church. Juanita was preceded in death by her step mother, Magdalene Jewel Lovern; two sisters, Evelyn Lovern Sult and Mabel Lovern McCrickard; four brothers, Sylvester Lee Lovern, Carl Estel Lovern, Mosie Palmer Lovern and Ellis David Lovern Jr.; and a sister-in-law, Deria May Lovern. She leaves to cherish her memory a sister-in-law, Ruby Lovern; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and many friends, who will miss her greatly. Juanita retired from Grand Furniture Company in 1965. She was the companyâ€™s first sales lady. She was a volunteer for Friendship Manor for 30 years. A longtime resident of Wellington at Friendship Retirement Community, she later made her residence with her niece, Patricia Weeks, then to Carriage Hill Retirement Community in Bedford. Funeral services were held at noon on Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Oakeyâ€™s North Chapel. The Rev. Jeffrey Dickson and the Rev. John Graybillwill officiate. Interment was in Sherwood Memorial Park.
