Lucille Foutz Spradlin, 97, of Bedford, died Friday, March 4, 2016. She was born on Feb. 28, 1919, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Dave Foutz and Susie Giles Foutz. Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Richard Alexander Spradlin; sisters, Virginia Pizzati and Elsie Stowers. Lucille was a homemaker, a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church where she was a very active member, teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for many years. She was also a member of Peaks of Otter Rebekah Lodge #32, serving as Treasurer for 25 years. She loved getting together with family and especially family reunions. She also enjoyed the mountains, nature, flowers, and watching all wildlife. She is survived by her son, Ricky Spradlin and wife Valda; daughters, Lois S. Stevens and husband Billy, Linda S. Blankenship and husband Enos, Shirley S. Grant and husband Randy, Shelby S. Trail and husband Randy; grandchildren, Wayne Saferight, Chris Spradlin and wife Shelley, Diana Gardner, Daryl Trail and wife Leeanna, Alex Grant, B.J. Trail, Austin Grant, ten great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, sisters, Sadie Seabolt, Rachael Smith, and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held 1 p.m., Monday, March 7, at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel, 1235 Walnut St., Bedford, with burial following at Virginia Memorial Park.
