Melba Jean Craig Smith, age 77, of Moneta, Virginia, passed away Feb. 4, 2014. Melba was preceded in death by her parents, Allen Steger Craig and Josephine Lucy Powers Craig, and her brother, Douglas Craig. Melba retired from Bedford County Public Schools after 22 years where she served as cafeteria manager of Staunton River Middle School, Moneta. She was a member of Smith Mountain Lake Quilters Guild, Peaksview Square Dancers and Smith Mountain Lake Square Dancers. Mrs. Smith was also a member of Morgans Baptist Church, Moneta. Melba loved to sew, knit, quilt, and crochet. She was devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren. Melba cherished her time with her only sister Marie. Melba is survived by her high school sweetheart and loving husband of over 57 years, Ted R. Smith, Sr. (SMSgt USAF, Retired), three adoring children including Rev. Ted R. Smith, Jr. (Sylvia) of Keysville, Cheryl L. Smith-Clifton (Don) of Moneta, and Steve K. Smith (Jaci) of Moneta; her sister, Marie Morgan of Coeburn, and brother, Donnie Craig, Bedford. Melba also leaves behind eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three nieces, and three nephews. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the
