Nelia Overstreet Crowder, 97 of Bedford County, passed away Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 at Guggenheimer Nursing Home. She was born on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1914 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Wesley Howard Overstreet and Addie Jane Updike Overstreet. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Mack Henry Crowder, Jr., her brother, Melvin H. Overstreet and her sisters, Lois O. Vandergrift, Frances O. Martin and Adell (Virginia) O. Karnes. Nelia was a loving mother, devoted to Quaker Baptist Church, a talented seamstress and a fried apple pie specialist. Surviving are her sons, Wesley I. Crowder and wife, Pat of Bedford, Reverend Nolan R. Crowder and wife, Sharon of Lynchburg, Henry D. Crowder and wife, Mary of Madison Heights; four grandchildren, Keith Crowder (Suzanne), Bruce Crowder and wife, Tabitha, Brian Crowder and wife, Anna, Christy Wilson and husband, Charlie; four great-grandchildren, Andrew Crowder, Julia Crowder, Emma Crowder, Caitlyn Wilson as well as other family. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012 at 2 pm at Quaker Baptist Church with Rev. David Timma officiating. Interment followed in Quaker Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Quaker Baptist Church, 4665 Chestnut Fork Road, Bedford, VA 24523. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of the 3rd floor at Guggenheimer Nursing Home and Centra Hospice. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
