Pearl Hale Massie, 84, of Forest, formerly of Bedford County, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Runk & Pratt in Forest. Born May 21, 1928, a daughter of the late William Carey Hale and Nannie Driskoll Witt Hale. She was the widow of Frank Rucker Massie. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Clara Hale Lee; a brother, Carlton Lincoln Hale; and a nephew, Michael Hale.Pearl was an exquisite seamstress, and greatly enjoyed needlework and cooking. She was a good, caring person and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Pearl is survived by a son, Reginald â€œReggieâ€ Frank Massie and his wife, Sharon of Falls Church; a granddaughter, Michelle Nicole Massie of Falls Church; three sisters, Dorothy Hale Karnes of Bedford, Elizabeth Hale Everidge of Lynchburg, Mary Ann Hale Wilson of Bedford; a brother, C. Goggin Hale and wife, Jane Ayers Hale of Bedford; a sister-in-law, Lorene Johnson Hale of Salem; seven nieces and five nephews. A celebration of Pearlâ€™s life was held on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Dellinger officiating. Interment followed in Oakwood Cemetery.
