Mr. Rayford Sedelle Harris, 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Roanoke, Tuesday, Nov. 10th at approximately 12:15 p.m. after a year-long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family. He was born in Appomattox, and spent most of his childhood in Bedford before moving to Roanoke. Rayford, or Ray, was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Roanoke. Always a diligent worker, he began working at Mohawk Tire Co. (now Yokohama) in 1967 and retired in 1997 with a perfect attendance record. He then continued working at Enterprise Rental Co. until October of this year. He loved our Lord, his family, work, and his bluegrass music; he was liked by all who met him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Elva Harris, his brothers Dale and Glen Harris, and his sister Betty Von Grant-Slusher. He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley D. Harris, his children, Terry and Wanda Harris, Gary and Janet Harris, Gwen and Buck Woolwine, and Brian Harris, his sisters Phyllis Waller, Donna Carr, Bonnie Dagenhart, and Vickie Toms, as well as his eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. His sevices were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015 at Oakey's South Chapel with Rev. Wayne Gadman officiating. Interment followed at Evergreen Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gentle Shepard Hospice. www.oakeys.com
