Robert Lasley Morris, 98 of Bedford, passed away Thursday, Sept. 17, 2015. He was born Nov.12, 1916 in Bluefield, WV a son of the late Francis Marion Morris and Edna Strawn Morris. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. Mr. Morris was a member of Bedford Baptist Church for seventy-five years and of the Liberty Masonic Lodge No. 95 and the Royal Arch Chapter No. 60 for many years. He was a well known carpenter and builder in the Bedford area and enjoyed making furniture in his workshop. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served during World War II in the 10th Mountain Division in Europe. He is survived by his wife, Earlie Stanley Morris whom he married on Nov. 25, 1937. Other survivors include three sons, James Morris and wife, Suzanne of Radford, Donald Morris and wife, Emily of Big Island, Lynn Morris and wife, Karla of Lynch Station; seven grandchildren, Andrew and Beth Morris of Katy, TX, Anthony and Jennifer Morris of Ashland, VA, John and Kim Morris of Bedford, Geoffrey Morris of Cincinnati, OH, David Morris of Big Island, Ruth Ann Irby of Lynch Station and Laura Morris of Lynch Station, seven great grandchildren, Eve and Matthew Morris of Katy, TX, Kellan, Rosie and Finn Morris of Ashland, VA, Tyler Morris of Bedford and Madelynn Morris of Cincinnati, OH. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Bonnie Francis for her support as his caretaker. Memorial contributions may be made to Bedford Baptist Church, 1516 Oakwood Street, Bedford, VA 24523. A funeral service was held on Monday, Sept. 21, 2015 at 2 PM at Bedford Baptist Church. Interment followed in Virginia Memorial Park. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
