Ross Reed Artrip, 79, of Bedford, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born in Clintwood, on March 9, 1934 a son of the late Robert Artrip and Maggie Colley Artrip. Reed was retired from the U.S. Air Force with 20 year’s service, and also retired from Wheelabrator Abrasives. He was a communicant of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Nelson Artrip, his children, Dorine A. Stanley and husband, Wayne; Janice A. Robertson and husband, Curtis; James R. Artrip and wife, Gail; Rose A. Duncan and husband, Riner; his grandchildren, Jennifer Dooley, Reid Robertson, Luke Artrip, Cameron Duncan, Bryce Artrip, Lindsey Stanley, Hannah Duncan and Monica Artrip; his great-grandchildren, Breanna and Nathan Dooley; his brother, Walter “Bud” Artrip; his sisters, Annette Thompson and Betty Monahan; many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, 1307 Oakwood Street, Bedford, 24523. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12 noon, Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014 at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church with Msgr. Joseph Lehman celebrating.
