A memorial service to celebrate the wonderful life of Ruthann Como, 73, of Elgin, SC and formally of Bedford, VA, was held at 2 PM, Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel. Rev. Wes Burr will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in the Ruthann Como Memorial Fund at the JMS Burn Center (Attn: Sherri Videtto) 3675 J. Dewey Cr. Augusta, GA 30909; or the Kershaw County EMS, 1315 Roberts Street, Camden, SC 29020. Ruthann Como passed away peacefully June 4, 2015 at the Augusta JMS Burn Center after a brief stay resulting from a tragic accident at her home. She was born in Newton, NJ, the daughter of the late Clarence Williams and Hazel Westbrook Williams. Ruthann was the retired owner of E.D.’s paint store in northeast Columbia where she enthusiastically served customers for more than 20 years, and was known as “The Paint Lady”. She was an intelligent self-made woman with an incredible work ethic and zest for all of life’s offerings. She was known for love of laughter and kindness to friends and family. Ruthann loved working in her yard, cooking, playing cards, board games and doing challenging crossword puzzles. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, friend, and confidant to so many. She was an avid golfer and tennis player and an active member of Woodlands Country Club. She is survived by her daughters, Diana Como of Elgin, SC and Sandra Bennett (Joe) of Bedford, VA: and her two granddaughters, Brittany and Jamie Bennett, both of Bedford, VA; and her sisters, Joan Underwood of Franklin, NJ and Judy Melki of Roanoke, VA.
