Sandra McKee Jones, 76, died on November 24th. She was the only child of Hugh D Mckee and Eula Boone McKee. She was very much a part of the fabric of the community and Montvale School, as her father was the principal from 1928 until the high school closed in 1964 and her mother was a teacher there for many years. She lived in the house next door to the school when she was born and was residing there at her death. She graduated from Montvale High School with the class of 1957 and attended Mary Washington College where she majored in art and honed her personal artistic talent. Sandra began her teaching career in Ketchikan Alaska and loved the area, culture and the opportunity to work with Alaskan Nativechildren. Upon her return to Bedford she taught in the elementary schools of the county. After her retirement from teaching, she worked in accounting and bookkeeping. On her younger and more adventurous side she taught swimming, liked riding horses, enjoyed white water rafting, and scuba diving in the Grand Cayman Islands. Later, her greatest pleasures were the companionship of the “Library Ladies†and her cats; Baby, Digger, and Sushi. She loved Christmas and was known for choosing the most unique gifts for friends and inundating them with cookies. She leaves to mourn her passing her two dear sisterly friends Tina and Nancy. A memorial service was held at the Montvale branch of the Bedford Public Library System on December 20th from 2-4. Arrangements by Oakey’s East Chapel and Crematory, 540-977-3909.
