June Scott Babb of Winchester, Virginia, died Monday, March 24, 2014, in Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center. Born in 1927, in Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Robert Archibald and Cora Lee Scott. A graduate of Hollins College and the Katherine Gibbs School, she held the position of Personnel Specialist with the Bureau of Ships, Navy Department, and the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington. She married Eugene C. Babb on Oct. 10, 1953, in Bedford. After 21 years as a first grade teacher, she retired from the Winchester School System. She was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church where she served on the Vestry, Altar Guild and as Chair of the Gifts and Memorials Committee. She sang in the Adult Choir and served as choir mother for the Junior Choir, and was a volunteer and board member for the Treasure Box. A volunteer for the First Step to Literacy program with the Handley Library, she also served on the Board of Directors of the Fremont Street Nursery and the Winchester Retired Teachers Association. She was a docent for the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Laura Babb Hockett and husband, Jeff, of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Martha Babb Griffin and husband, Jim, of Winchester, and two grandsons, Evan and Aaron Hockett. A brother, Robert A. Scott, Jr., predeceased her. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, April 3, 2014, from 6-8 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church at 12 PM on Friday April 4, 2014, with the Reverend Webster S. Gibson officiating. Afterwards, friends will be received in the Parish Hall.
