Alvin Sexton, 69 of Bedford, passed away Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014 at Lewis Gale Hospital. He was born on Monday, Jan. 1, 1945 in Grayson, KY, a son of the late Homer Sexton and Hazel McDavid Sexton. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mabel Webb. Al was retired from Rubatex with thirty-five years of service. He was a member of Wilson's United Methodist Church and he loved hunting, gardening and his buddy, Sparkles. He was also a U. S. Army veteran. Surviving is his wife of forty years, Faye Overstreet Sexton; sisters, Nadine Rose of Huntsville, AL, Lavon Nuckols of Moneta; a brother, John Sexton and wife, Lucy of Hitchens, KY, as well as several nieces and nephews. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Wilson's United Methodist Church, c/o Penny Williams, 4626 Shingle Block Road, Bedford, VA 24523. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014 at 11 am at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Pastor Erick Landau, Pastor Jack Davis and Pastor Steve Turner officiating. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post # 16 will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
